Body Jet Water Liposuction

Body Jet Lipo water-assisted liposuction uses a gentle jet of water to irrigate fat and remove it permanently from the body.  The Body Jet Lipo water-assisted liposuction procedure is available in our Downtown Burlington location.

Body Body Jet Lipo

What is
Body Jet Lipo?

Body Jet Lipo, which uses small jets of water to remove fat from problem areas, is one of the most promising alternatives to conventional liposuction. Our patients love this treatment because it is gentler on the body than traditional liposuction while still producing great results.

How Body Jet Lipo Works

Conventional liposuction involves making small incisions in the treatment area and using a hollow tube to loosen fat before it is suctioned or vacuumed from the body. In contrast, Body Jet Lipo water-assisted liposuction involves a less invasive method: Using a gentle jet of water to irrigate fat and remove it permanently from the body. Body Jet Lipo may be used to contour multiple areas of the body, including the abdomen, hips, thighs, buttocks and upper arms. Body Jet Lipo is more precise than manual liposuction, so it’s ideally suited to contouring small areas, including the hands, ankles, knees, and the space below the chin.

Body Jet Lipo Candidates

Most healthy adults can safely have Body Jet liposuction (learn more about liposuction safety here).

Before you get started with treatment, however, you may need to make a few lifestyle changes: To ensure a comfortable and complication-free experience, you’ll need to give up tobacco, alcohol, and certain medications (like blood thinners) for about three weeks before and after your procedure. Your GraceMed team will review your medical history and let you what changes if any, you’ll need to make.

Before having any form of surgical fat removal, candidates must also make sure their expectations are realistic. No plastic surgery procedure can induce full-body weight loss, so if you’re significantly overweight, you’ll need to get close to a normal BMI before you have Body Jet. Like traditional liposuction, Body Jet is used to “spot reduce” stubborn fat deposits that remain even after successful weight loss. If you’re a healthy weight but you still struggle with excess belly fat, love handles, or overly fully thighs or hips, this procedure may be exactly what you’re looking for.

Body Jet liposuction is best suited to patients who have good overall skin elasticity. If you also have loose skin you want to treat, or you’re concerned that having liposuction may create excess skin, you may wish to consider another procedure. GraceMed also offers laser liposuction, which stimulates collagen production and tightens the patient’s skin and connective tissues while fat cells are destroyed. For patients with very severe abdominal skin laxity, we generally recommend abdominoplasty (tummy tuck surgery).

Benefits of Body Jet Lipo

Body Jet Lipo is preferable to conventional liposuction for the following reasons:

  • Less tissue trauma (reduced risk of blood vessel damage and less swelling)
  • Does not require as much manual pressure to remove fat
  • Shorter overall treatment time
  • Less postoperative pain and bruising
  • Local anesthetic can be used
  • Minimal downtime
  • Rapid recovery
  • Excellent and precise results
  • Fat cells are left intact, allowing a fat transfer if desired

Though many patients prefer the gentleness of Body Jet Lipo, this procedure can’t always replace conventional liposuction. Manual liposuction is still the better choice for removing large areas of fat and removing very dense fat. During your consultation, our doctors will perform a physical examination to verify that you’re a good candidate for Body Jet liposuction.

Body Jet Lipo Procedure

Body Jet Lipo can be performed under local anesthesia. This approach limits postoperative fatigue and reduces the risk of certain complications. However, if you would prefer not to be awake during your procedure, general anesthesia can be used. Your GraceMed team makes every effort to personalize their body contouring procedures to suit the preferences of each patient.

During the procedure, your GraceMed surgeon will inject a tumescent fluid — which is a mixture of saline, epinephrine, and lidocaine — into the treatment area. This fluid helps to reduce discomfort and minimize bleeding. Then, he uses a laminar jet that releases high-pressured water to dislodge fat — separating the fat cells from the surrounding tissues — before aspirating it from the body.

Body Jet Lipo Recovery

Everyone recovers from Body Jet Lipo differently, but most patients are able to resume light activity within a few days of having this procedure. We recommend waiting about one week before returning to work to allow your body ample time to heal. The treated area may be sore or tender and have mild bruising, but these side effects will quickly subside. Any pain can be managed with prescription medication.

Immediately after having Body Jet Lipo, the area you had treated may not look visibly slimmer. This puffiness is a result of swelling and will naturally subside over three to six months. As swelling subsides, your new, leaner shape will gradually reveal itself.

Although it’s recommended that patients rest and relax after the procedure, gentle walking is encouraged to prevent the development of blood clots, especially in the legs. GraceMed will follow up with patients to check their healing progress and advise when it is safe to return to daily activities.

In general, Body Jet patients recover more quickly than patients who opt for traditional liposuction. Recovery from Body Jet liposuction generally requires just three to five days, whereas healing from traditional liposuction takes about seven to ten days.
