Educational Background
Dr. Rodger Short graduated from Queen’s Medical School in 2004 and became certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 2009. He received further sub-specialty fellowship training with internationally renowned plastic surgeons in cosmetic surgery, micro-vascular breast reconstruction, and body contouring after bariatric (gastric banding) surgery, significant weight loss or post-pregnancy. As a result of his strong reputation for surgical and teaching excellence, Dr. Shortt was recruited by McMaster University as the director of the Cosmetic Surgery Training Program. He currently holds the rank of Assistant Clinical Professor.
At Queen’s Medical School, he was the recipient of the Rattray Scholarship in Ophthalmology, the Bracken Award for Academic Achievement, and the Queen’s University Award in Surgery. During his plastic surgery residency at McMaster University, he was a recipient of the Best Clinical Research Paper.

Do I need an appointment?
Yes, you need to make an appointment to see Dr. Shortt. We value your time and strive our very best to run our office efficiently and on time. An appointment helps make that happen. Please understand that on rare occasions, some patients require additional time that was not accounted for, which may delay things a bit. We appreciate your understanding.
Do I need a referral for Dr. Shortt at GraceMed Briarwood?
A referral is required for all OHIP consultations. Cosmetic consultations do not require a referral. If it is not clear whether your concern falls under OHIP or not, please contact our office and speak with our staff who will better be able to guide you.
How do I book a consultation with Dr Shortt?

How long will it take to get an appointment?
The wait time for referrals varies but may take a few months. If you have an urgent need to see Dr Shortt please advise your GP, who will be able to triage your case and possibly accelerate the process. If you have any questions about the timing of your cosmetic consultation, please contact our office directly.
What will the procedures cost?
Every procedure is different and every patient is unique. It is not possible to give costs without first seeing Dr. Shortt. After a thorough consultation with Dr. Shortt, which includes designing a comprehensive management plan catered to your needs and goals, an estimate will be provided to you.
Will any of the procedures be covered by OHIP?
Dr. Shortt specializes in cosmetic surgery as well as reconstructive surgery, the latter of which is always covered by OHIP. Additionally, many cosmetic procedures can be partially covered by OHIP. In this situation, Dr. Shortt will write a letter to the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care advocating on your behalf for them to help fund your surgery. This may include surgeries to the face, breasts, or body.
Where will the procedures be performed?
Dr Shortt has a fully equipped and licensed operating theatre at the GraceMed Briarwood. He also operates regularly at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital and the Georgetown Hospital. The decision as to which facility your surgery should take place will depend on the nature of your surgery and your individual needs.

I had a breast reduction surgery in July with Dr.Shortt. It took me years to decide for the surgery as I am very specific about the doctor I choose and if I had to go through this major procedure it had to be the best Doctor. I had a smooth recovery and I can say it was less painful than my 2 C-sections. I am very pleased with the size and the shape of my breasts. This surgery changed my whole posture for the better. I enjoy my life much more now and I wish I had done this years before. Dr. Shortt is a thoughtful, caring doctor that you can trust.

I’m finally starting to feel like my old self again
I had 3 fat transfer surgeries for breast cancer and am very pleased with the results. Dr. Shortt and his staff are very friendly, professional and helpful. Dr. Shortt thoroughly explained the procedure to me and I felt very comfortable with each surgery. He also removed my radiation tattoos with minimal scarring that have almost faded away completely. I highly recommend Dr. Shortt and his staff. After a terrible ordeal of going through breast cancer, I’m finally starting to feel like my old self again and am very appreciative of Dr. Shortt and his staff.

His bedside manner is impeccable. He took time to explain the procedure clearly, which helped me reduce my anxiety about the procedure. He answered all my questions patiently and clearly. On the surgery day, I was quite nervous. Dr. Shortt was warm and kind. He also used his sense of humour to ease my mind.
He is humble. He didn’t exaggerate the outcome and I was happily surprised. He is thorough. He was willing to go that extra mile to ensure the safety of his patients.
His assistant, Joanne, is an absolute pleasure to work with. She is warm and friendly on the phone and in person. The friendly conversations went a long way to help me feel comfortable and safe.

Every member of the team was kind – they took away the anxiety
Dr. Shortt and his team is AMAZING.I walked in super nervous and they made me feel comfortable. From the very first nurse that met me to the nurse who walked me out. Every member of the team was kind and they made me laugh and that took away the anxiety I was experiencing. Dr. Shortt did an absolutely fabulous job on me (breast lift, fat grafting, tummy tuck, liposuction) it’s 2 days post op and I feel great.
