Initial Results from Laser Hair Removal
For seven to 30 days after treatment, it may appear that the treated hairs are growing back. This is not actually new hair growth. The damaged hair follicles are expelling the weakened hair from the skin. During this period, you may shave but should not wax or tweeze the affected area. After a few weeks, your new hairless skin will be visible.
Multiple Treatment Sessions Are Needed
Because individual hairs grow at different rates, several treatment sessions are required to successfully target all of the hair follicles. The laser can only treat hairs that are in the active growth phase, and not all hairs grow at the same time. Most patients will need four to seven treatment sessions, spaced about three to six weeks apart, to target all of the hair follicles in the target area. Depending on the size of the treatment area, you can expect to see results within a few months of when you start laser hair removal.
Is Laser Hair Removal Permanent?
When performed properly, this procedure is effective at removing hair permanently in about 80 to 90% of patients. This means that for the most part, the treated area will never grow hair again. However, some patients have a few stubborn hair follicles that require follow-up treatments. These patients may get excellent results from laser hair removal by receiving follow-up treatments once or twice a year.
