Botox - Injectable Neuromodulator

Botox injections are noted primarily for the ability to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles, stubborn lines, crow’s feet, and “elevens.” This quick treatment requires virtually no downtime. Botox improves appearance by relaxing muscles that cause wrinkles. These injections also treat medical conditions including migraines, hyperhidrosis, overactive bladder, and eye problems. You’ll need to repeat treatments in three to six months after the effects wear off. Botox and medical injections are available in our Briarwood, King West Toronto, BurlingtonMississauga, Oakville, Olde Oakville and North York Clinics.

What Is Botox?

Aging naturally, gravity, and a lifetime of involuntary facial muscle actions will create wrinkles, creases, and lines that can make you look tired, older, and even angry. Although aging may be inevitable, GraceMed offers a wide range of non-surgical injectable treatments that combat the most noticeable and frustrating facial imperfections. Neuromodulators (Botox) have become North America’s most commonly performed non-surgical treatment to address these types of issues. By injecting small amounts in various areas of your face Botox injections can smooth wrinkles and soften your facial expressions. This treatment requires no downtime, and the results are apparent within a week in most cases.

What Issues Can Botox Injections Treat?

Targeted injections of Botox into facial tissue can temporarily interrupt the nerve signals to nearby muscles. By diminishing muscle activity, Botox can correct fine lines and deep-set wrinkles.

Botox injections are diverse and effective treatment options that can address issues and ailments such as:

  • Forehead wrinkles
  • Wrinkling on the neck
  • Frown lines
  • Crow’s feet
  • Horizontal forehead lines
  • Vertical lip lines
  • Bunny lines
  • Downturned corners of the mouth
  • Smile Lines
  • Facial asymmetry
  • Platysmal lines
  • Dimpling
  • Masseter hypertrophy
  • Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis)

Botox Benefits

Botox injections are fast, affordable, and non-invasive. The results also appear quickly – typically within a week or less – and last for three to four months or longer. Whether you are looking to improve your self-confidence or treat a serious medical condition, Botox injections could be a treatment possibility for you.

Botox Candidates

GraceMed physicians inject neuromodulators to treat facial wrinkles caused by muscular contractions. Known as dynamic wrinkles, these wrinkles are visible when you smile, squint your eyes, or make various facial expressions. They are different from static wrinkles — fine lines that are visible even when your face is calm. Dynamic wrinkles include crow’s feet, frown lines, and creases in the forehead. Injectable neuromodulators soften these wrinkles by relaxing the muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles, giving the face a more relaxed and refreshed appearance. The best candidates for the procedure are those between the ages of 30 and 65.

Botox Injections: What To Expect

During your appointment, GraceMed physicians will first examine your facial features and skin to determine whether you are a good candidate for injectable neuromodulator treatment (Botox). Your GraceMed physician or nurse will then carefully choose and mark several points on your face where the neuromodulator will be injected. Your provider will use a tiny needle to inject very small amounts of the substance into your face. Although the procedure is not painful, some patients prefer a numbing gel to enhance their comfort. Immediately after the injections, you might experience very minor swelling or slight redness, which will go away quickly.

The entire treatment requires about half an hour to complete. You will begin to see results immediately and it will take from three to 14 days to achieve the optimal results

Botox Recovery and Side Effects

For many people with crow’s feet, Botox seems to be the most viable option because of its efficacy and short recovery time. Side effects are still possible, and those include:

  • Temporary bruising around the treated areas
  • In rare cases slight drooping of the eyebrow or upper eyelid, usually correcting itself in two to three weeks

Botox Alternative Dysport®

An alternative to fillers, neuromodulators like Botox and Dysport temporarily block nerve receptors on the muscle to prevent muscle contractions that cause lines and wrinkles.

Like Botox, Dysport is a neuromodulator made with Botox Type A and is used to treat crow’s feet, horizontal forehead lines, and down-turned corners of the mouth.

Research has shown that with multiple treatments, Dysport can last longer than Botox in some cases. Although some patients have longer results, most patients will notice an improvement in their wrinkles for 3 to 4 months. Dysport also provides a softer look and is an option for people resistant to Botox.

Commonly Asked Questions

Will my Botox injections be painful?

  • A small amount of discomfort is felt when the needle is inserted and the liquid injected. This sensation lasts approximately five seconds
  • Botox is injected into various locations on the face. The needle is extremely small and only a tiny amount of liquid is injected at any time
  • The treatment could trigger a mild headache side effect afterward, for which we recommend acetaminophens

Will Botox make me look younger

Botox is extremely safe and effective with results in as little as one week. Botox has been an effective treatment for anti-aging. It treats wrinkles, fine lines, and other effects of aging. Aside from these, Botox has other cosmetic benefits as well.

Will I have any downtime after my Botox injections?

Because no sedatives or anesthetics are used, you can return to normal activities soon after the procedure, your physician will recommend that you do not lie down for three to four hours after the treatment.

When should I see the effects of Botox?

The treatment takes three to 14 days to take full effect and the benefits can last from 3 to 6 months. We recommend two to three injections each year to maintain a smooth, youthful appearance.

What happens after my Botox injections?

Botox is safe, but some patients may experience temporary side effects, these include headaches; slight bruising and pain where the injections are, temporary drooping of the eyelids (ptosis), blurred vision, or feeling nauseous. You may want to massage treated areas, yet, we advise against this. Most patients can leave the clinic immediately with no issues. One of the things that makes Botox so popular is the immediate effects. Some patients will see an improvement by the time they leave the clinic, and over the next few days, the new youthful appearance will become more pronounced. We suggest patients undergo repeated Botox sessions every 3-6 months; this is dependent on the patient and the severity of wrinkles or lines.
